Another successful Model UN conference so far!
On November 21, our students had the opportunity to represent the United Nations General Assembly, Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), World Health Organization (WHO), UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
At the UNGA, in the NM House ChambersThailand was represented by Jacob Sullivan, Moises Medrano Jalalon, and Luiz (Ezra) Acuna. Jacob talked to different delegations and built alliances. Moises spoke a couple of times and maintained Thai presence in the body. Ezra was an effective page, distributing messages at the UN body.
At DISEC, Thailand was represented by Santiago Armijo Blay and Diego Luis Ledezma. Santiago represented Thailand well, asking clarifying questions related to resolutions on the use of drones for military purposes in the international community. Diego tirelessly researched Thailand’s stance on space rights at the international level, referring to the 1967 Space Treaty.
At the WHO, although only on wednesday and thursday, Cipatly (Niza) Valadez and Alan Araiza were a power delegation, as they took on the important issues of vaccination access and medical cooperation in the international community.
At ECOSOC, Samuel Reyes and Sam Walling contributed to finding solutions to the problem of digital literacy and misuse of social media in sensitive geopolitical areas and their potential consequences.
Finally, at the NM Senate Chambers, Fernanda Ortiz and Marisol Armendariz represented Thailand at the UNHRC. They practiced public speaking, communicated with different delegations and demonstrated leadership in their committee.
