Governing Board Appreciation from the April 18th Meeting
Parent involvement in schools is crucial for the academic success of children. Studies have consistently shown that students whose parents are involved in their education have high academic achievement. When parents are involved in the school community, it helps create a positive culture and sense of community. Monte del Sol and the Governing Council extend their appreciation to all MDS families who attend conferences and work closely with teachers and administration in support of students. We are particularly grateful to those parents who have taken the time to participate in the Parent Association, Equity Council, fundraisers, dances, sports, etc. Your participation directly impacts student growth and well-being and supports Monte del Sol Charter School to further its mission of educating and inspiring Santa Fe’s youth.
ROBERT JENKINS, Ph.D., President
Dr. Robert Jenkins moved to Colorado fresh out of high school, earning his B.A. (History) and later a Master’s degree (Liberal Arts) from The Colorado College. Later, he earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Colorado. With over forty years experience teaching all grade levels from pre-school through graduate school, Dr. Jenkins has also served as an elementary principal and school district superintendent in various locations in southern Colorado. After moving to Santa Fe, Dr. Jenkins taught five years at Santa Fe High School and is now enjoying retirement working on several boards including the Monte del Sol Governing Council. In his leisure time Dr. Jenkins enjoys his cabin near Creede, Colorado as well as training for the swimming Senior Olympic as the New Mexico state champion in the sprints. Being President of the Governing Council is an ideal way to share his wide knowledge of and support for K-12 public education.
